In the early 1980s, Hambleton began to portray iterations of his highly recognized Shadowman figures onto found objects and canvases. According to the artist, “they could represent watchmen or danger or the shadows of a human body after a nuclear holocaust or even my own shadow”.
This painting by Richard Hambleton is part of the collection of noted 80s Pop Artist and prominent California Art Collector. This collection was assembled over the course of five decades and includes stunning examples by Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Richard Hambleton, and others.
As an affluent and well-known Art Collector and contemporary who was a friend of the artists and their collectors, he had a truly unique opportunity to assemble a collection of street art that was exceptional in its scope and quality.
